What is Side Quest Psychology

The quest begins…

Side Quest Psychology was started as a place to house the many side projects of its founder, Kaela Joseph, PhD. The mission of Side Quest Psychology is to further growth at the intersections of fandom and popular culture studies; diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI); and of course, psychology. Current projects are listed below, with more to come.

Pop-Culture Conventions

Kaela has been paneling at pop-culture conventions since 2016 on topics like LGBTQ+ representation, fan activism, fan works, trauma, neurodiversity, disability, and much, much more. If you are interested in inviting Kaela to co-organize or sit on panels you are proposing, please reach out via the contact section of this website. Kaela is primarily available to attend conventions on the West Coast, especially in California, but will consider other opportunities on a case by case basis. Kaela’s strengths as a speaker, in addition to overall professional experience, include lived experience as a queer and nonbinary person, with expertise in LGBTQ+ psychology, as well as lived experience with non-apparent disabilities.

Authorship in Fandom
and Pop-Culture Studies

Kaela has authored/co-authored several academic works in the areas of fandom and pop-culture studies, as well as other areas related to psychology and health care. For a full list of Kaela’s publications, please visit the publications tab on this website.

Podcasts

Kaela has been a guest on several podcasts, including ConTinual Con, Umm…About That!, Fandom Made Me; and The Sewers of Paris. If you are interested in booking Kaela to speak on any podcasts or broadcasts, please reach out via the contact page on this website.

Side Quest Psychology aims to start its own podcasts as a future endeavor.
